Who we are

Clipped (Pty) Ltd (“Clipped”, “we”, “us”) is a company registered in South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, as defined by the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

If you have questions about this policy, or want to exercise any of the rights described below, contact our information officer at hello@clipped.co.za.

Information we collect

What we collect depends on whether you are a creator, a brand, or simply visiting the site.

From creators

If you apply to become a creator, we collect your name, email address, phone number, city and province.

When you connect a TikTok, Instagram or YouTube account, we collect data from that platform: the account identifier, your handle, your follower count, and the view, like, comment and share counts on the specific videos you submit to a campaign.

To pay you, we collect your banking details and South African ID number. We collect these solely to process payments and to meet our record-keeping obligations.

If you opt into UGC campaigns by completing a casting profile, we may also collect your date of birth, gender, race or ethnicity, languages spoken, city, photographs, and an introduction video. Completing a casting profile is entirely optional.

From brands

If you run a campaign with us, we collect your company name, your contact person’s details, your VAT number, and your billing address.

Collected automatically

Like most websites, we collect standard web analytics when you visit — the kind of data that shows which pages get used and how, without identifying you individually.

Why we collect it

We collect social account data specifically to verify that a video submitted to a campaign was actually posted by the creator who submitted it, and to count its views so we can calculate what they’re owed.

We do not post on anyone’s behalf. We do not read direct messages. We do not access any content beyond what a creator has submitted to a campaign.

Special personal information

Race or ethnicity is collected only from creators who choose to complete a casting profile, and only with separate, explicit consent given at that time. It exists so brands can cast campaigns with specific requirements — it is never used to rank creators or decide who is approved onto the platform.

Consent can be withdrawn at any time, and the data deleted, without affecting the rest of a creator’s account.

Lawful basis for processing

We process personal information on the following bases:

  • Contract performance, for the data needed to run a campaign and pay a creator.
  • Consent, for casting profile data.
  • Legal obligation, for records we are required to keep for tax purposes.

Who we share it with

Brands running a campaign a creator has joined receive that creator’s first name, their platform handle, and the view counts on videos submitted to that campaign. Brands never receive a creator’s surname, contact details, banking details or ID number.

We also share data, in general terms, with the service providers who keep the platform running: our hosting and database provider, our email provider, and our payment provider.

Cross-border transfers

Data is currently stored on servers in the European Union, a jurisdiction whose data protection law provides a level of protection comparable to POPIA.

How long we keep it

Campaign and payment records are kept for five years, to meet South African tax record-keeping requirements.

Casting profile data is deleted on request, or when an account is closed.

Social account tokens are deleted immediately when a creator disconnects an account.

Your rights under POPIA

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you
  • have it corrected if it is inaccurate
  • have it deleted
  • object to how we process it
  • withdraw consent, where we rely on consent

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@clipped.co.za. We respond within a reasonable period.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, at inforegulator.org.za.

Disconnecting a social account

You can disconnect a connected social account at any time from your creator profile. Once you do, we immediately stop collecting data from it.

You can also revoke Clipped’s access directly from within TikTok, Instagram or YouTube’s own account settings, independent of anything you do on our platform.

Security

We encrypt data in transit and at rest, and access is role-based — only staff who need to see banking details, for example, are able to.

Cookies

This site does not currently set any cookies. If that changes — for analytics or any other purpose — this section will be updated first.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our practices or the law changes. Material changes will be reflected here, with an updated date at the top of the page.
